González is known for his commitment to using poetry as a vehicle for healing, empowerment, and cultural memory. He previously served as the Albuquerque Poet Laureate from 2016 to 2018 and has been actively involved in various community initiatives for over two decades. His work includes teaching at the Native American Community Academy, where he employs trauma-informed, culturally grounded curricula to empower Indigenous and Chicano youth..
